He was a highlight of any performance at SF Opera. He had mastery over the orchestra.

I believe he is a scoop for Deutsche Oper. While I am not a particular admirer of his conducting style, there is no doubt he is able to successfully conduct Wagner (very important in Berlin) and he seems to be able to maneuver in the political game as well, which is probably of equal importance to his musical skills.

I am ambivalent about Runnicles, he does conduct Wagner well. It’s amusing to see that he is going to the ugliest opera house in the world, in the same city that Pamela Rosenberg has gone to.
