Cupcake-boccanegra

As threatened, I've finally gotten around to combining opera and cupcakes. This is a depiction of Act II Scene 2 of the Simon Boccanegra that opened the San Francisco Opera season. I'll have you know that it took longer to write out those few bars of music than to paint the rest of the scene here.

Did you show it to Copley?

Yes, just before I left. I had him suggest what the painting for Idomeneo should be.

Awesome! But now I want some actual real cupcakes and all we have here are stale bagels. Sheesh. Copley tells me he had a great time. Thanks for being such a great interviewer.

Thanks! Someone should sell cupcakes at the opera, I bet that would do well.

I am the original director of Simon B in London and am appalled at the reviews of the sloppy reproductions that have passed of as somehow my work in SF.I had nothing to do do with what you describe and the whole thing seems to have been thrown on by David Edwards without the slightest care or fidelity.
Forgive me for providing the materials for such crap. You deserve better
Dima is a great artist and deserves more care and SF is a fab place and should have better production procedures.

Goodness, I’m really sorry to hear that. The production was just dull, unfortunately, and it is a shame, since it did have had all the makings of being really wonderful.
