Elizabeth-bishopElizabeth Bishop (pictured left, photo by Sasha Vasiljev) will sing Fricka in Der Ring des Nibelungen at San Francisco Opera this Summer. She replaces Larissa Diadkova, who has withdrawn for personal reasons. Bishop recently sang two performances of the title role in Iphigénie en Tauride at the Metropolitan Opera, replacing an ailing Susan Graham.

“Personal reasons” indeed! When the site is called The Opera Tattler, I expect more than the official press statement/party line. Now get out, gather intelligence, and live up to your name; your fans are waiting.

I try to limit my tattling to the audience. Rehearsals have already started, so I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions.

I’m afraid I don’t remember her Fricka from Rheingold. My memory must be going as it was only 3 years ago.

Jennifer Larmore sang Fricka two Summers ago…
I guess we will hear Ms. Bishop in a few days…. fingers crossed – but if she filled in for Susan Graham – she should be decent…..

Oh my goodness. How right you are. No wonder I don’t remember Bishop. Sadly, I don’t remember Larmore very well. Kicking myself right now …

Fricka was not the best fit for Ms. Larmore, so she wasn’t particularly memorable in Das Rheingold.

I have friends that really like Bishop, and those that don’t, so we will have to hear for ourselves.
