Kate Aldrich has withdrawn from San Francisco Opera's Carmen. Kendall Gladen (pictured left in Act IV of Carmen, photograph by Cory Weaver), who already sang the prima yesterday, and will sing the second performance on Wednesday, will also take over from November 26 through December 4.

I’m so angry at SFO right now. I was originally scheduled to hear Aldrich on Nov 23. When she pushed her dates back, I bought an additional ticket so I could hear her on Nov 29. Do you have any idea about why Aldrich dropped out completely? What is her illness?

I just got a call from Marsha at SF Opera, as I complained to them about not seeing Kate Aldrich. She has cancelled all her performances due to illness, so it’s not SF Opera’s fault.

Thanks, J. Sutton. I’m still disappointed, but no longer angry at SFO. At least I’ll see 2 different Carmens so I can compare performances.

I’ve overheard chatter that she has recently had a baby and is not quite ready to return to performing just yet. shrug
