Austrian Culture Minister Claudia Schmied announced that Ioan Holender would step down as the director of Wiener Staatsoper in the fall of 2010. Replacing him is Dominique Meyer. The music director Seiji Ozawa is also to be replaced by Franz Welser-Möst. Reuters Article | Wiener Staatsoper

Yesterday David Gockley decided that Hope Briggs (pictured left) would not sing Donna Anna in the new production of Don Giovanni, which opens tomorrow. Instead, the current Adler Fellow Elza van den Heever (pictured right) will have her main stage debut as Donna Anna. Press Release [PDF]
