A startling amount of opera in German next season, plus a world premiere and a Händel opera outside the standard repertoire. I am most looking forward to Ariodante as it has two of my most favorite singers, Ruth Ann Swenson as Ginevra and Ewa Podleś finally making her SF Opera debut as Polinesso. Angela Gheorghiu is also having her SF debut in La Rondine as Magda. As for interesting returns, Olga Borodina reprises her role as Dalila and William Burden sings Tom Rakewell.

I will definitely see the Magic Flute. Maurice Sendak + Mozart = joy. Also, is Tannhauser a good intro to Wagner? I’ve got to start somewhere….

Ooh, a civil war opera. It’s all coming together.

There seems to be a relative dearth of Italian opera. And a surfeit of German. Maybe its just my racial prejudice.
In the press release section on “La Rondine,” the very first thing they note is Angela Gheorghiu’s “striking good looks.” Gross.

Tannhäuser is the only major work of Wagner’s I am not familiar with, but definitely Das Rheingold is a good first Wagner opera.

why do you want me to comment when so many other people have already done their duty?!

I am sad there are no operas in the Russian language for the new season. Also, Gheorghiu is quite attractive. She also has a pretty good voice. Aren’t you partial to Romanians?

I shall have to do both Tannhauser and Das Rheingold. It’s hard to think ahead to June 08. I still need to make sure I get to one or two this June. Perhaps we can team up with Dodaro? I had such fun!

I’m not sure we can convince Dodaro to see more Wagner, but perhaps we can see Mozart together.

Hardi: Are you a Romanian? If so, then NO!
Niki: Yay! Oh, I can’t miss any of the operas. Tannhauser is only 4 hours. I’m sure I’ll fall in love with Wagner all over again.

I am sad that I have never seen a Russian opera at all… and that I have not even been given the opportunity to (at least ever since you turned me into an opera-going coot).

Perhaps we should run off to somewhere with Russian operas.

O yes, let’s run off to a large city that’s playing a sold-out Russian opera and beg on the streets for two tickets.

What a fine idea! It’s much better than simply going to the simulcast, of course.

Better than simulcast, but perhaps less sane.

Also, it gives us a much better chance of going to the UN Headquarters.

I’m not “going” to the UN headquarters… I’m marching there! And you’re marching with me, sir!

My mistake, indeed. Perhaps we can pretend it is performance art, and I can blog about it here.
