Michael Haneke will direct Così fan Tutte at New York City Opera in 2012. His operatic debut was as director of Don Giovanni in 2006 at Opéra national de Paris.

The crazy Austrian film director? I saw Dog Days at a Berliln & Beyond a few years back. That was my introduction to Haneke. wow! The scene where they insert a lit candle (by the unlit side) into the behind orifice of the bad guy and make him sing the Austrian national anthem was weird. I hear his latest movie (an American production) does not have a Hollywood ending.

Yes, indeed! I think his latest movie is showing at the Shattuck Cinemas starting tomorrow. Looks disturbing.

Oops- wrong director. I was thinking of Ulrich Seidel, who makes Haneke look like Bruckheimer. Well, an AUstrian Bruckheimer, so its still pretty hard core. The Piano Teacher was no bit o cream puff. Also, I hear that “funny Games” is really hard to watch.

I rarely can keep film directors or Austrians straight, and doubt very much that I could sit through any of these movies. They do not sound absurd in a good way?
