Dr. Clifford (Kip) Cranna began his 30th year with San Francisco Opera on June 4, 2008. He will receive the San Francisco Opera Medal before the second performance of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor this season, on Friday, June 20. Cranna was named director of music administration for San Francisco Opera at the end of last month, and was compared to Obi-Wan Kenobi in the press release.

Dear Tattler,
I notice that Lucia di Lammermoor will be playing in simulcast at AT&T ballpark on June 20. Have you ever been to one of these events? If so, any opinions? (Not that I can imagine you wouldn’t have one.) The idea of free opera is appealing but the idea of going to a ballpark for any reason whatsoever is not. Please advise.

Hi Cindy,
I’ve never managed to make it to one of these, but I am going to try to see this Lucia, just to see how it is. Most people I’ve talked to about these events seemed to have enjoyed them, but I understand it was unpleasantly cold for Samson et Dalila. I don’t think we’ll have that problem this time. I’ve never been to AT&T Park!
Cheers,
The TattlerLikeLike
