    I don’t understand why there has been so little comment on this – Gergiev is so deep in bed with Putin, that it’s not surprising that he’s going to be the poster boy for Russian aggression, but the Furtwangler conducting Meistersinger in front of Hitler springs to mind.

    I think we are just so removed from the Republic of Georgia (especially out west here in the US), that people are just not interested in thinking more about this, much less talking about it. This incident certainly gives me pause, and, at the very least, I feel uncomfortable attending a performance with Gergiev conducting in the future.
