40 Million for SF Opera

John and Cynthia Gunn are giving San Francisco Opera 40 million dollars, outdoing Jeannik Mequet Littlefield's gift of 35 million two years ago. John Gunn is presently the chairman of San Francisco Opera's Board of Directors.

    Wow. Now I have even more reason to put money in Dodge & Cox funds. It sounds as if they will continue the cinema broadcasts in 2009. I hope they publicize it sooner than they did last year – by the time I had the schedule, I was “booked up” (busy spring). I would love to see “Ariodante” again. Any hope that there is a tape of “Iphigenie en Tauride” in the vaults?

    I do hope they show Ariodante. I’m pretty sure they did not do any video recording of the Gluck, unfortunately.
