Before I forget, La Fille du Régiment was mentioned as an opera to be performed at San Francisco Opera in the next few years. Also, William Friedkin is to work on a La Scala/San Francisco Opera co-production of Mefistofele. Earlier this year we heard that Peter Grimes, La Fanciulla del West, Il Trovatore, Il Trittico, The Makropoulos Case, Salomé, and Moby-Dick are also on deck.

Where/when was this mentioned? Somewhere recent? BTW I am looking forward to your accounts of Idomeneo. Can’t get to SF more than once a year . . . . sigh.

And it will supposedly star Juan Diego Florez and Diana Damrau.
I have also heard that Karita Mattila will do the Makropolous Case here at some point.LikeLike

Dear Sarah:
La Fille du Régiment was mentioned at Free Opera in the Park by the General Director (but quite possibly elsewhere also), and Mefistofele was mentioned in the LA Opera biography for Friedkin.
Dear MJ: I hadn’t heard about that cast, thank you! I have heard about the Mattila Makropolous Case, and I am looking forward to that one.LikeLike

According to a talk Gockley gave last year, Rene Pape will be our Mefistofele, and we’ll also be getting Fanciulla del West in 2010 (Il Trittico is also rummored, with Pat Racette singing all three roles.) I’ve also had it confirmed that A year from now we’ll be hearing Heppner as Peter Grimes.

Dear Upstairs Tenor: I hadn’t heard about Pape or Heppner, thank you! I also heard about Fanciulla and Trittico last year, I’m glad we are going to get some Puccini that isn’t Butterfly, Boheme, or Tosca.
