Much was said about the faltering economy. Porgy and Bess has been cast, though not all the contracts have been signed. Eric Owens will be Porgy and Laquita Mitchell sings Bess. The cinemacasts continue next Spring, with The Magic Flute, Lucia, Elixir, and La Bohème. As for next season, there will be a Richard Strauss opera conducted by Luisotti, but it is not Die Schweigsame Frau or Capriccio. (Gockley declined to name which opera it was but we've heard Salomé mentioned several times on different occasions.) The next world premiere is planned for 2011-2012.

The next Strauss is supposed to be Salome, with Luisotti conducting.
Was anything said about the next world premiere? Is it the Adamo commission? We are a co-commissioner of Heggie’s Moby-Dick, but I believe the premiere will be in Houston.

According to some comments made by John DeMain after the Bernstein concert at Stern Grove, Eric Greene will be Jake, reprising his role from the Washington and LA mountings of the production, and Karen Slack is on the books as Serena.

Dear Lisa: That’s right, I was blogging from my phone as quickly as possible, so I’ve updated the entry now. Thank you!
No, nothing was said beyond the season it was to happen in, and that there would be another world premiere in 2012-2013 as well. Moby-Dick is premiering in Dallas, I believe, not here.
Dear Upstairs Tenor: I had heard about Karen Slack and also that Gregg Baker is Crown, but not about Eric Greene. I also wonder who will sing Clara, as Laquita was to sing that role rather than Bess.

I thought Gockley promised two world premieres in every three years? Nothing in 09/10, 10/11…

So that’s why he seemed apologetic. Apparently he just couldn’t find a good one for either of those seasons.

Darn! No Idomeneo . . . but I would love to see Lucia again, and also see L’Elisir. Are there dates set yet for the Cinemacasts? Last year’s dates were announced only a few months before, and I had already planned other concerts etc.

Good point, I do believe it was mentioned as something for DVD release. But I don’t think they are actually doing a cinemacast of it, though it was in the initial press release.
