Hello All,
Snooping around the internets,I found that Fall 2014 will bring us Verdi’s Ballo featuring the house debut of Krassimira Stoyanova-looking forward to this one; I’ve heard good things about her singing.
Cheers!

Based on the Gockley 2013-14 Preview discs, we can now move Troyens up to 2014-15, along with adding Partenope, Susannah and Cenerentola.

I know it’s been a while since anyone has posted on this topic, but as far as the 2014-15 upcoming season is concerned, I would be pretty tempted to make a trip up to San Francisco for an overnight stay if they put on productions of Floyd’s Susannah (which I’ve never seen) and Les Troyens with Susan Graham. Adriana Lecouvreur, if with Gheorghiu, would also be a must for me, and of course I’d do just about anything to hear Andrea Chénier with Jonas Kaufmann (heck, I’d like to hear Kaufmann sing names and numbers from the phone book at this point — if anyone still has a phone book for him to sing from).
As for guest conductors, I’m hearing good things about Daniele Rustioni who just won “best newcomer” at the international opera awards in 2013 (he’s also conducted at both Washington National Opera and La Scala to raves). Hopefully we’ll get to see him on the West Coast at some point — either here in LA or up in San Fran.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
Am awaiting the announcement of the 2014/15 season. If OT’s list is correct (and it usually is), it will be a most interesting season. Am looking forward to hear who will be singing what.
Does anyone know the date when the season will be announced. Last year it was surprisingly early. I’m guessing they moved it back to January?? It seems SFO is the first of the major houses to announce their seasons nowadays.
Best Wishes for 2015!!

I discovered the 2015-15 Sweeney Todd is a coproduction with the HGO and Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet. There are lots of pics and vid clips of the Paris production on the internet. It looks fantastic!

Elektra isn’t a rumor; it is one of the operas listed in a letter David Gockley sent to subscribers a while back. 🙂

The Manon that just opened in Vilnius at Lietuvos Nacionalinis Opera ir Baleto Teatras is a co-production with San Francisco Opera and Israeli Opera. The production is by Vincent Boussard.

How firm is that casting for Chenier? The rumor was Roberto Alagna for the longest time.
I have JK for an upcoming Turandot with Goerke.

If Chenier had featured Alagna, I would have still made the trip to San Francisco. But sadly, it looks like he was not going to be the leading man either.
As for Kaufmann, I guess I am going to have to make a trip to London to see him sing — most likely Otello in 2017.
Still curious who the leads will be in Adriane Lecouvreur
Elektra, and Orfeo ed Euridice. I haven’t seen any of them performed live. I think we can count out La Draculette for Lecouvreur, as she seems to be mainly singing at Covent Garden, Paris, and Vienna (she has apparently sung her last performance at the MET). But I’d love to come back up to San Francisco and see a production at the War Memorial again. Last time was the Ring Cycle in 1999.

Hi, do you have any thoughts or confirmed programing for the 2018/2019 season?

Just sharing. I hear from a reliable source:
Cav/Pag will open the season;
Roberto Devereux (Radvanosky/Barton)
Arabella
Tosca (new production)
It’s a Wonderful Life
Carmen (Zambello production, not the awful Bieto one)
Rusulka
There may be 1 – 2 more operas, but my memory is bad these days. I had heard they were going to produce Lady MacBeth for Herlitzius, but I heard this was eminent for two seasons now, so not sure for 18/19.
We’ll know for sure in a few weeks when SFO announces the new season!!
Happy Holidays all!

Thank you Sacto OperaFan! I came across the Arabella, because Parterre Box had something about Ellie Diehn doing that. Also happy to see Rusalka in the mix. By the way, is this the first season that Matthew Shilvock has planned?

Hi Richard,
Always happy to share rumors and gossip. Naturally nothing is set in stone until SFO officially announces the season. My source mentioned to me two years ago about the Lady MacBeth and it never materialized and they are usually very reliable.
No I don’t think this is Mr. Shilvock’s first season where he did all the planning. It was printed that he had a hand in helping Mr. Gockley with the artistic choices being made, but I don’t think we’ll see his vision until a few more years. You know they plan ~five years in advance or so I’m told.
I can add one more opera to the list. In the summer 2019 I believe they will also produce Orlando Furioso.
Enjoy!

Re planning horizons – with a change of management, the planning horizon goes to three years.
Orlando Furioso turned out to be Handel’s Orlando, of course.
