Quinn Kelsey is replacing Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the last 2 performances (October 4 and 6) of Il Trovatore at San Francisco Opera this Fall.

Well, I loved his Marcello. Should be a nice change. I may have to actually catch more than one Trovatore now.

What happened to Dmitri? This isn’t what I would call a “reasonable substitution” , with all due repsect to Mr. Kelsey.

Agreed. Of course, since Malgorzata Walewska is singing Azucena for the last performance, this means I’ll have to hear at least 3 performances.

“Personal reasons.” It’s a very typical substitution, Kelsey is an up-and-comer who has sung at the Met and all. It is always very interesting to hear young, promising singers. I’ll bet you anything that the audience will be much better behaved for those two performances!
