Have they announced the performers for the roles? I’m most interested to see who will be singing Rigoletto and the cast of La Fanciulla.

They haven’t announced the casts yet. The Met Futures Page says: Christine Schaefer/Nino Machaidze/Diana Damrau, Ramon Vargas/Joseph Calleja/Vittorio Grigolo, Carlos Alvarez, Stefan Kocan (Sparafucile), c. Paolo Arrivabeni/Fabio Luisi for Rigoletto and Deborah Voigt, Marcello Giordani, Juha Uusitalo, Dwayne Croft, c. Nicola Luisotti for Fanciulla.

Seriously, do they have to stage half a dozen of Verdi operas every season? And do they ever put the Traviata & Boheme sets in storage? I guess the answers are Yes and No.
I’m really looking forward to Le Comte Ory! And yes, I may get sucked into seeing Rigoletto with Diana Damrau.
I know the Met likes to restage new productions the following year, according to some interviews I’ve seen (musicians, chorus still fresh from the year before). So, I find it interesting that the Met isn’t re-staging the poorly-directed La Sonnambula in the upcoming seasons (based on the link you posted).

I am quite curious about Le Comte Ory. Good point about La Sonnambula, that’s very interesting indeed.

The Met sure produces a lot of opera! 🙂 I’m thrilled that so many interesting directors are slated to direct, including Robert Lepage, Peter Stein, and Nicholas Hytner. The premier of Sellars’ production of Nixon in China is long overdue — I sure hope it makes the HD series, but that would surprise me. I’m happy to see that William Christie and Simon Rattle will be making what appear to be conducting debuts. OT: Thanks for the post.

I’m so grateful that the Robert Lepage Ring operas and Wadsworth’s Iphigenie are part of the HD series!

Is the Wadsworth production the one they did at the Met last season? I saw the one in San Francisco which was Robert Carsen, I believe – now THAT one was very minimal and stunning. Susan Graham was here in the Twin Cities in December for a recital and afterwards, when she was signing my CD, I told her she HAD to be filmed in the role. So she said, “well, I’m doing it at the Met” . . . very enthusiastically. I suppose she already knew it would be in HD (wouldn’t they have to agree or approve or something?) but she was very coy about it. I’m already checking to see if I need that Saturday off from work . . .

    Hi Opera Tattler,
Just got back from a trip to New York. Saw the premiere of the new production of Attila @ the Met. I found myself thinking during the performance, gosh, I wish the Opera Tattler was here so I could read what the OT would write about this on her blog. Ridiculous costumes, uncomfortable looking singers, no drama whatsoever and an incredibly beautiful performance from the Met Orchestra under Riccardo Muti… and then there was (finally!) some big drama during the curtain calls. Huge booing for the production team, huge ovation for Muti. Then Muti walked off the stage in the middle of the curtain calls– an apparent “&@*! you” to the audience.
