The LA Times reports that tenor John Treleaven (Siegfried) and soprano Linda Watson (Brünnhilde) do not seem to enjoy Achim Freyer’s production of the Ring at Los Angeles Opera. The first cycle opens May 29th.

I read it last night, and thought it was rather jaw-dropping (the fact that singer were complaining before the Ring opens; and the “I don’t care” attitude of the director). There are lots of comments about this over on Parterre box too.
The Ring Cycle seems to be somewhat doomed right now; between the LA debacle and the strike at La Scala on the Ring debut.
I hope the Robert Lepage’s Ring at the Met will have smoother sailing. [R U going, Tattler?]LikeLike

I just noticed that KUSC will be broadcasting (not live) the entire Ring Cycle over 4 consecutive Saturdays starting at 10AM PT. First broadcast will be on May 29 2010.

I’m certainly going to LA’s Ring, and it is very likely I will attend Lepage’s as well, but in standing room.

Interesting they gripe after Gotterdammerung, in which both of them looked and sounded much better than they did in either Siegfried or Walkure. Regardless, these two are the weakest links in LA’s production, which for the most part has been fantastic. Freyer is a genius and this production is incredibly illuminating of the history and psychology of the characters.
OT- I’ll be in LA this Sat & Sun. Let me know if you’re in the house.LikeLike

How very odd. Yes, I’ll be there, of course.
