Today the new season of the Canadian Opera Company was unveiled. Susan Graham sings Iphigenia in the co-production seen in San Francisco in 2007. Jane Archibald, Allyson McHardy, and William Burden star in Semele.

    I’m glad to see that the Saariaho opera is being performed. Though a somewhat static affair, it was very well received when I saw it in Santa Fe close to ten years ago.

    Yes! “L’amour de Loin”! I was totally broke when it was done in Santa Fe, no way am I missing this in Toronto. Hopefully the scheduling gods will smile on me and I can catch a Maple Leafs game on the same trip as well….
    I know why it’s being done this way (ticket sales) but why pair the awesome “Eine Florentinische Tragodie” with the fluff that is “Gianni Schicci”, Zemlinsky already wrote the companion opera, “Der Zwerg”.
