Tenor Salvatore Licitra died on September 5, 2011 from head and chest injuries sustained in a scooter accident. He was 43.

This is very sad. I’m sure we’ve seen him here at SF, but I’m not sure what in.

I had to cheat and google, but yes, he sang Dick Johnson in last year’s Fanciulla. I for one enjoyed that production immensely. Such a loss. R.I.P.

What I remember aboout that production was Salvatore playing ping-pong backstage, laughing and just being a charming, real – person. Yesterday, at our Final Dress for Turandot, Maestro Luisotti, (a dear friend of Salvatores), called for a moment of silence to honour him. It was a poignant moment – and I know Maestro Nikki dedicated that performance to him.
