OK, how did they line up those vocalists? Gauvin, Blythe, DiDonato, Garanča. Garanča!

I was thinking the same thing! Is this a domestic Ariodante tour for Joyce?

O god, Sarah, I sure hope you’re right about DiDonato & Il Compleso Barocco!

The people involved in this seem really well connected. Sanford I. Weill is the chairman of Carnegie Hall’s board, so I am sure that helps a lot.

The program DiDonato is performing is called “Drama Queens,” and features arias by Handel, Monteverdi, Gluck, and Haydn. She is singing it in New York and in Kansas also.

Oh, I’d still love to see/hear that. That program probably is a more reliable draw in the US than a full-length “Ariodante.”

Yes (although I was lucky enough to see Ariodante last May during my first trip to Paris) – and I’m wondering if this is a work-up for a new CD. Hmm, we’ve got Octavia, Cleopatra . . . I’m trying to think of the Queens she might be singing of these composers.
Just saw her hubby conduct “Lucia” with Susanna Phillips (who I guess is featured in the current “Vogue” along with Isabel Leonard and Kate Lindsey).

Robert Cole is the artistic booking consultant. He used to run Cal Performances, and he’s very well connected….which is how he lined up such an impressive roster of artists/orchestras.

Indeed, Cole did talk just a little bit about planning the season at the press conference.
