Lisa Hirsch points out that Ewa Podleś has withdrawn from San Francisco Opera’s Ariodante. It was to be her San Francisco Opera debut. Podleś has been replaced by Sonia Prina.

I’m disappointed, Podleś is one of my favorite singers, and I was excited to hear her in a Baroque opera with Susan Graham and Ruth Ann Swenson, since they are all so great. Podleś isn’t convincing as a male though, I thought she was best as Erda in the last Seattle Ring. Nixie believes she was best as Adalgisa in Norma (Seattle 2003?), but I didn’t get to hear that performance.
