New York City Opera has commissioned a new work, entitled The Perfect American, from Philip Glass. To be performed during the 2012-2013 season and based on Peter Stephan Jungk's novel Der König von Amerika, the opera is about Walt Disney.

I’ve sworn off PG. Seeing him perform in person with his ensemble was pure torture. Totally deafening from start to finish.His operas are actually a relief in comparison. Maybe I’ll read the book. Jungk’s Franz Werfel bio is pretty good.

I don’t know Glass’ work well enough to have an informed opinion. This book does seem worth reading though.
